Portland Is Getting A 24/7 Soccer Bar

Confused about where to watch your favorite "football" match? The good people opening up Portland's first soccer bar, fittingly named 4-4-2, are here to help.

Taste of Europe, the small market on 18th and Hawthorne, is being rechristened the 442 Soccer Bar, scheduled to open September 2010.

This full-liquor bar will be the only bar in town where you will never miss your favorite soccer game and in addition a place where you can watch all major sporting events on 3 large HD TVs.

The bar will have an old pub feel and friendly soccer-fanatic staff.

While your waiting for September to come around, visit their website to vote for your favorite team – they have 12 panels to adorn with team flags. Of course the first one is reserved for the Portland Timbers!

Sunset from the rooftop of Departure...

Summertime in PDX would not be the same without Departure, this gem of a bar on the rooftop of the Nines hotel. Enjoy.

Radio Room Is My New Favorite Happy Hour

The Radio Room on 1101 NE Alberta is my new favorite place to score some cheap eats. Above is the Ahi Tacos, Beet Salad and fried calimari. The dishes were about 4 bucks each and the presentation was excellent. The beet salad was my favorite with goat cheese and horseradish cream, which was delicious. I highly suggest stopping in

Pics From The Neat Sheet Launch Party

The launch was a success! This event on the rooftop of the deluxe hotel was really a great event with a big turnout. The fashion show was good, although I can't understand why the organizers couldn't use real models, there are a lot around Portland. The RiverKeepers Association I'm sure made a pretty penny from all the donations and it was interesting to hear what their goals were for the Willamette River. I hope that more promoters and charities and clothing lines will have events like this because the fashoin set of Portland could really use some more events to get dressed up for :)

BEBE's World Cup Campaign Makes Women's Soccer Look Bad

Maybe because I grew up playing soccer and I take it seriously is the reason that I dislike this ad campaign. I can't quite put a finger on it. I like that BEBE is using the World Cup as their inspiration but having 100lb women kicking soccer balls in heels but purses just cheapens women playing soccer.

It sets a bad example of women's soccer to people who don't take women's soccer seriously. Juggling in 5 inch heels? Seriously?

Aziz Ansari After-Party But No Aziz To Be Seen

Last night, I ventured to the Aziz Ansari after-party at Beauty Bar where I had a glass of champange and was hoping that maybe, just maybe Aziz would show up and yell WHAAAAAAAAATTT!!!!! But alas, I never saw him. I did have a good time at the Beauty Bar though, having never been there before, the 60's style bar plays fun music and has sweet vintage decor.

Tonight Is Last Thursday On Alberta

Tonight don't miss out on "Last Thursday" in The Alberta Arts district in Northeast Portland. The art, the people watching and the random bicycle dance parties will keep you entertained for hours! Make sure you bring your walking shoes and a sweater because it's getting cold.

TONIGHT! AZIZ ANSARI AFTER PARTY AT 11pm (Free) at Beauty Bar

Yes, Aziz Ansari, after his performance at the Aladdin Theatre will be hitting up the Beauty Bar. He just recently hosted the MTV Music Awards and I thought he did very well. If you're not familar check out the videos.

Landon Donovan Scores In Final Minute For USA To Advance

Landon Donovan scores in the first minute of stoppage time. We advance, first place, in Group C. Truly unbelieveable. A highly American finish. Dramatic and full of hope, only to see it come out in our favor.

The win, the first World Cup victory for the U.S. in eight years, gave the Americans first place in Group C. With just its fifth shutout in World Cup play, the United States (1-0-2) won a group for the first time since 1930 and will face the runner-up in Group D on Saturday.

A Place to Bury Strangers, Last Night At Doug Fir

I went to check out, A Place to Bury Strangers, Monday night at the Doug Fir. I heard the light show was impressive and it was. But that's about all I, personally, was impressed with.

The The Portland Mercury had a blurb about them coming to town: "Holders of the title of New York City's loudest band—for simply noise; they make carefully organized, spine-tingling rock with an instantly familiar, cool vocal style. Also, they frequently perform in front of projected videos of explosions and stuff, so that's always fun."

And it was.

But with electro-beats, loud rock guitar and the style of singing, it was too much to take in. They might be the NYC's "loudest band" but that doesn't make them fun to listen or dance to. Hard to follow.

FIFA Detains 36 Female Holland Fans For Wearing Tiny Orange Dresses

36 Dutch female fans cheering on Holland, were detained in South Africa because they were all wearing the same orange dress bought at the Bavaria brewing company, a Dutch brewery. Both FIFA and South Africa has laws against "ambush marketing" or what is commonly known as "guerilla marketing."

One of the women, Barbara Kastein, told the newspaper: "We were sitting near the front, making a lot of noise, and the cameras kept focusing on us. We were singing songs and having a good time. But in the second half, about 40 stewards surrounded us and forced us to leave the stadium. They pushed us up the stairs, and one of the girls fell."

The women were questioned by Fifa, and then by the police. "The police came and kept on asking us the same questions over and over, asking if we worked for Bavaria. They said we were ambush-marketing and it was against the law in South Africa. They said we would be arrested and would stay in jail for six months. Girls were crying. It was bad."

Scary!

The Dutch brewing company says: "We launched the orange item on 30 April on the queen's birthday. The Dutch people are a little crazy about orange and we wear it on public holidays and events like the World Cup. There is no branding on the dresses. And Fifa don't have a monopoly over orange."

True.

But I have to ask, how do 36 young women all afford tickets to the World Cup? Was it some sort of World Cup hen party? Hey let's all 36 of us best friends go to South Africa for a "girls trip?"

Suspicious.

Who has the Best Bloody Mary in Portland you ask??

Hands down, I think its Cafe Nell on NW 20th and Kearney. Can you see why? It's like a meal in itself. $9.00

What's a WAG??

V Magazine latest issue mocks the football WAG's and they were pretty spot on.

What is a WAG you ask? WAG stands for the "Wives and Girlfriends" of the players most of whom are a top feature in European gossip rags.

Models including Alessandra Ambrosio, Dree Hemingway, Constance Jablonski and Maryna Linchuk put on some fake tans and tight clothes to make fun of the Victoria Beckhams of the world aka WAGs.

Clever and perfect timing.

Dry Off With American Apparel's Hairy BUTT Towels

Don't you want a towel like this? I think American Apparel is officially the creepiest mainstream clothing company.

American Apparel has teamed up with BUTT magazine for a collection of towels featuring life size photos of hairy men.

Score!

The limited edition towels are $45 and come in BUTT pink and BUTT black.

According to the site a portion of sales will be donated to the Ali Forney Center, a NYC organization providing housing and services to LGBTQ youth.

They might be able to make more $$ if the men on the towels were hotter :)

Seafood Paella is a new favorite!

Made delicious Heilman family favorite "Seafood Paella" last night for Fathers Day. Came out great! Recipe Here. Helps if you have a Paella Pan. They sell them at Sur La Table.

Chris Carpenter to play at open mic at the GoodFoot tonight

Got this from Doodle Bird, my good friend Andrew's blog, Chris is a coworker of Andrew's and we are heading down to the GoodFoot to watch him play tonight around 9pm. Check out, "Free for Days."

Ref of USA vs. Slovenia Game to sit rest of World Cup

Referee Koman Coulibaly is, according to Yahoo Sports, "highly unlikely" to ref anymore games this 2010 World Cup. For a ref that gives a yellow to a player who gets hit in the face cannot be trusted to make serious calls in a World Cup match.

Shame on FIFA Referee committee for not making any comments on the call or the ref, which only added fuel to the fire.

FIFA has assigned a Belgian referee to take Coulibay's place and he will reportedly watch the movie "Gladiator" before the match to prepare himself. Gotta love that.
